About This Service
Platinum Physiotherapy is an approved WSIB Community-Based Provider in Brampton. Every treatment our clinicians deliver under an open WSIB claim falls within the scope of Ontario's Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, 1997 and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) Regulations. Injured workers with an accepted claim are entitled to medically necessary rehabilitation that restores function and supports a safe, timely return-to-work - at no cost to the worker. We provide that rehabilitation, complete every required WSIB form, and communicate directly with your adjudicator, nurse case manager, and Return-to-Work Specialist (RTWS).
Our clinicians are trained in all three of WSIB's Programs of Care (POC): the Program of Care for Low Back Injury (POC-LBI), the Program of Care for Upper Extremity Musculoskeletal Disorder (POC-UEMSD), and the Program of Care for Acute Shoulder Injury (POC-AS). Each POC is an evidence-informed, time-boxed rehabilitation framework (8-12 weeks) with defined outcome measures, standardized billing, and built-in discharge criteria. When recovery exceeds POC timelines or the clinical picture is complex (multiple body regions, psychosocial flags, post-surgical), we transition your file to a Specialty Program or to extended active treatment with WSIB approval.
We treat the full spectrum of workplace injury presentations across Brampton's industrial, construction, healthcare, warehousing, transportation, and office sectors: acute back and neck injuries from lifting or slips, rotator cuff injuries, lateral and medial epicondylitis from repetitive tool use, carpal tunnel syndrome, knee and ankle injuries, post-surgical rehabilitation following WSIB-approved orthopaedic surgery, chronic pain with deconditioning, and cumulative-trauma repetitive strain injuries. Treatment is integrated - physiotherapy, chiropractic, massage therapy, acupuncture, dry needling, shockwave, Class IV laser, and spinal decompression as clinically indicated - all under one WSIB file.
When Should You Get This Treatment?
- Any accepted WSIB claim (Schedule 1 or Schedule 2) with an active claim number and approval for physiotherapy or chiropractic rehabilitation.
- Acute low back injury within the first 12 weeks - eligible for the Program of Care for Low Back Injury (POC-LBI), evidence-based framework with weekly active treatment and outcome-driven progression.
- Upper extremity repetitive strain - lateral epicondylitis, medial epicondylitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, shoulder impingement, forearm tendinopathy: POC-UEMSD framework up to 8 weeks.
- Acute shoulder injury - rotator cuff strain/partial tear, labral injury, acromioclavicular sprain: POC-AS framework, 8 weeks of active rehabilitation.

- Modified-duty or graduated return-to-work planning - we coordinate directly with your employer and case manager.
What to Expect
First visit (60 minutes): we obtain your WSIB claim number and date of injury, review the Form 7 (Employer's Report) and Form 6 (Worker's Report) if available, complete a full subjective history including mechanism of injury, prior injuries, work demands, and psychosocial yellow flags (Orebro Musculoskeletal Pain Screening Questionnaire). Physical examination is standardized, evidence-based, and fully documented: posture and body-region screen, range of motion (goniometry), manual muscle testing (Oxford 0-5 scale), neurological examination where indicated (dermatomes, myotomes, reflexes, upper- and lower-limb tension tests), special tests appropriate to the injured region, and condition-specific outcome measures (Oswestry Disability Index for back, Neck Disability Index for neck, DASH or QuickDASH for upper extremity, Lower Extremity Functional Scale for knee/ankle/hip, Numeric Pain Rating Scale at rest and with activity). We issue a working diagnosis, provisional RTW timeline, and begin active treatment that same visit.
WSIB Program of Care timelines: POC-LBI runs up to 12 weeks from the date of injury; POC-UEMSD up to 8 weeks; POC-AS up to 8 weeks. Each POC has defined weekly active-treatment visits, mandatory progress-reporting milestones, and discharge criteria. If you meet discharge criteria early (significant improvement in function and outcome-measure score), we discharge you back to unrestricted work. If you plateau, we escalate to either an extension request with WSIB or a referral to a WSIB Specialty Program (Regional Evaluation Centre, Specialty Clinic) with appropriate documentation.
Modified-duty coordination: if your family physician has issued work restrictions, we communicate directly with your employer (with your written consent) about modified-duty options, ergonomic adjustments, and a graduated return-to-work schedule. We document all employer communication in the WSIB file. If your employer cannot accommodate restrictions, we notify your WSIB case manager and continue treatment under Loss-of-Earnings benefit status.
Reporting and paperwork: we complete the WSIB Form 8 (Health Professional's Report) after the first visit and at mandatory re-assessment intervals, issue the Functional Abilities Form (FAF) for return-to-work planning, and prepare a Functional Abilities Evaluation (FAE) if requested by WSIB or your employer. All paperwork is completed in-house at no cost - you never pay for forms.
Discharge criteria: return to pre-injury work duties, achievement of a minimum clinically important difference (MCID) on the primary outcome measure, restoration of functional range of motion and strength to within 10% of the contralateral limb (for unilateral injuries), and stable symptom control. At discharge we issue a final Form 8 with RTW recommendations and, if appropriate, a maintenance home program.
Cost: zero out-of-pocket. WSIB pays the clinic directly for approved treatment under standard WSIB billing codes. There is no deductible, no co-pay, and no doctor's referral required once your claim is accepted.
